To clear up the conflicting reports that the raisin cake Marie made on Christmas day in 1929 was buried as some people have said and that it was thrown out as a different person has stated let me say this: I spoke with the man this morning who claimed in the documentary that he had been the person to throw away the cake. He said he too had heard about the cake being buried. He said that all he could say for certain is that the ORIGINAL cake made by Marie was taken by Arthur very shortly after the murders and that the cake in it's original glass dome top container was stored in the attic of this man's parents home. This man is a direct relative of the family. He went on to explain that another cake was made a number of different times to replace the original cake that was on display in the cabin during the tours of the cabin. The raisins were replaced as well due to people stealing them off the cake. These replacement cakes may have very well been buried but the original cake was not. This man, a family member, who threw the original cake away in 1945 when Arthur died said that the glass dome cake cover was cracked and the cake had turned green and that he went out side and threw it away. I am repeating what I was told. I do not claim to know for a fact what happened.

On December 29th last year I posted the above message in here. I now have some more information about this cake that a lady told me yesterday. She told me that her brother was at the Lawson cabin in 1942 and that he saw the cake in a drawer there of the dresser, the one shown in the photo of the murder scene, can anyone add anything they have heard or that they know about the cake. A gentleman in the documentary said he was the one who threw the cake out in 1945 after Arthur died. He said it had been stored in the attic of his parents home all those years until he threw it out. If so, what cake was it in that dresser drawer the lady's brother saw in 1942..the original cake or a substitute cake?

Is it just me, or did anyone else find it kind of tacky that the raisin cake recipe was printed in the WC/BC book and the
new one? I'm not a literary genius or anything, but I remember when I got to the end of the first book and that recipe
was printed, I thought it was just insulting. Kind of making light of a tragic situation.....

Making light of the situation is also selling baked pieces from the recipe at the end of the tours at the concession stand. That would bother me to purchase either items. I agree with finding out the truth and continously searching, but no one should make $$ off the dead like that. There is a difference in a few things. I can not believe the family did not say anything to Marion.

Dear Sissy,
Your absolutely right. Garbage like REDRUM put is totally uncalled for and unacceptable to the Lawson family as a whole. This is what caused the Lawsons to keep quiet and to never talk to anyone else about the tragedy. It's people like this that started up lies and half-truths, belittling the family members just to make themselves look big. How would they feel if it had been their family we had been talking about? I highly regard this message board to be a true and fair place for all people to comment and ask questions about the Lawson family; But please ONLY questions that are worth asking and answering. The obscenity of the comments made by REDRUM were totally uncalled for and over the top. As far as I go I will not answer ANY of their questions, in fact i will totally ignore everything they have to say.

Hi Doug
I think redrum got that name from a movie called the shining were the little boy sees writing I think on a mirror which if you turn it around it spells murder. This movie if you haven't seen it stars Jack Nicholas and his family go out to a remote hotel which is closed all winter. Jack Nicholas character begins to see the spirits and they try to convince him to kill his wife and son and he goes completely insane, but his wife and son make it out. I think Stephen King wrote the book and made the movie.

Mr. Boulding, you are absolutely right in this post. The decendents of the Lawson family have been quiet for a long time about this story. The filmmakers have allowed for them to have this format to tell their side/s of the story. To share and to learn from others. When someone like "Redrum" and/or "noneofyourbusiness1" comes along, it seems that their only goal is to turn it into a circus show, to create discourse, and to turn people off to the message board. Perhaps their ultimate goal is to drive the story back into the closet. I am not a family member. But I do appreciate the family members that do come here and represent their side/s of the story. We all owe them the consideration of keeping this place civil, and leave out the nonsense posts. As of this post, "Redrum" has a grand total of 8 posts. Those posts have a grand total of 27 words. That is a total of 3.375 words per post. So, I'm guessing if we were trying to figure out who this poster is, we would look for a person that not a Lawson family member, someone that has nothing to contribute (and keeps letting us know that), and someone with a very limited vocabulary.
I think that your idea to 'totally ignore everything they have to say' is a good one. It seems as though "this one" is just looking for some attention, and is having a hard time finding any elsewhere.

Dear Doug, As a member of the Lawson's family. Your input is very valuable. As having the Lawson name in my family line also, they also were from Stokes county although I have not found any connection to Charlie so far. I found it hard to believe there is not a connection somewhere, I just haven't found it as of today, unless they just came from totally different location and settled in Stokes County. I, personally, would like to find Charlie Lawson not guilty! To me it is inconceivable that a man could do that do his wife and children no matter his reasons for doing so. He would indeed have to be a very, very sick man. This is just my personal opinion but I think it was a rushed to judgment, even if he did commit the crime. As it has been stated, the law enforcement that was there when the fatal gunshots were heard that took Charlie's life was too afraid himself to go and investigate. Some of the neighbors had to go and find Charlie. So this just say to me there was not a thorough investigation done. Even if Charlie did commit the crime, he was entitled to a fair trial but I guess you cannot try a dead man.
