I'm so glad you like the photos of the children Susan. They are precious. Each one of them looks so happy and so innocent. They had yet to be tainted or scarred by the Lawson murders at that time in their lives when those photos were taken. Little Elsie Kiger was Maybell Lawson's best friend. That picture of Elsie was taken just two months before Maybell was murdered. Every time I look at Elsie's picture I can't help but think how soon after that photo was taken that her innocence was shattered.

A little info here on eight of the nine children in the slide show that shows how these people's lives were so closely intertwined with other lives in Stokes County and ultimately to the lives of Charlie and Fannie Lawson and their children:
The baby in the slide show named Dorothy Watts grew up to become the mother of the little girl in the slide show with the big bow in her hair named Bettye Montgomery who grew up and married the little baby boy in the slide show named Richard Rutledge which in turn made him become the son-in-law of the baby girl Dorothy Watts. Baby Dorothy's husband David Montgomery had a brother named Johnny Montgomery (not in the slide show) who had the two little girls in the slide show Opal and Annie Mae Montgomery. Baby Dorothy Watts grew up to become one of Marie Lawson's best friends. Elsie Kiger was Maybell Lawson's best friend. Oakley Manring was Fannie Lawson's brother Powell Manring's son. The other child in the slide show, Chester Montgomery was the son of Isaiah (Boots) Montgomery who was the brother of Joseph Montgomery and Dorothy Watts' husband David Montgomery.

Thanks for the background information on the children Maria. I know each name has probably been mentioned before, but it is good to know who the children are.
I'm sure you have mentioned Rufus Lawson and his wife Lula before, but do you know when that photo was made and if any of their children are still living.

I don't remember ever mentioning Rufus and Lula Lawson before but with my short term memory loss...who knows. Rufus Lawson, no relation to the Charlie Lawson line was the son of Braxton Lawson and I will have to go back and find my notes on him to see if I have any info on when he was born and when this photo was taken of him and Lula and the children. I'll have to ask his grand daughter if any of the children are still living. I'll get back to you on it if I find out.

Just found my notes on Rufus and Lula (Tucker) Lawson but no date as to when Rufus was born or the photo was taken. However I feel certain when I call Virginia Mitchell she will be able to tell me. I mentioned that Rufus Lawson was not in the same line as Charlie Lawson's line and he wasn't, however my notes do inform me that Rufus Lawson was in the same line as Charlie Lawson's mother Nancy was in.

I just finished talking with Virginia Mitchell who is the daughter of the young girl in the photo named Etta. The children of Rufus and Lula Tucker Lawson were (from oldest to youngest) 1. Ralph. Born: 1908. Died: 1984 2. Etta Born: 1911. Died: 11-17-2006 3. Helen Keller Born: 1913. Died: 2000 4. Lillian Born: 1917. Died: 1936 5. Ida Lee born: 12-16-1919. Died: 9-5-2004 The father Rufus was born: 6-24-1881. Died; 1947 All of the children are now dead. Virginia said Spring 1926 was written on the back of the photo as the year the photo was taken. This puts the photo taken 3 years before the murders. This makes it a good time frame for the Scrapbook. The picture was taken 83 years ago.
