Ella Mar Johnson was one of Marie Lawson's 3 best friends, the other 2 being Dorothy Watts and Ruby Wagoner. I came across a question from our old forum posted by Sissy that I never addressed so I thought I would do that now. The question Sissy asked was:
If Ella Mae johnson told Marie a year before the murders that her father had forced himself on her and went to prison for it for ten years, why didn't Stella Lawson tell the author of the first book about this?
This is why I think she did not tell the author: Stella maintained the whole time the first book was being written that it was a lie that Marie was pregnant, let alone by her father. It was only when Stella was told by the author that the book was finished and ready to go to press that Stella recanted her story by telling the author that she wanted to come clean and unburden herself of the terrible secret she had been harboring for nearly 60 years. The secret was that Marie had indeed been pregnant and that Marie's father was indeed the father of her baby. This "terrible secret" was no surprise to the authors because they were aware from the git-go of this rumor and their agenda was to get proof of it. Stella had formed a close bond with one of the authors and sadly enough had misunderstood that person's interest in her as being something other than it was and other than what Stella felt for the author. I believe Stella told the truth when she admitted that Marie was pregnant by her father, there is no doubt in my mind about that. However, I think she did not mention it to them until the very end because by doing so she could prolong her contact with him and postpone the end of their relationship if only for a few more days. Ella Mae Johnson was of no importance as far as Stella and the authors were concerned, at least not at that time and at least not Ella Mae's story of her father molesting her. The only thing of importance to them was to find someone who knew the rumor was true about Marie being pregnant and would be willing to say so. This person turned out to be poor Stella Lawson Boles.
