Checking birth records today I learned that Stella Lawson's middle name was Murphy. I never knew that. I've always just heard Stella Lawson and Stella Lawson Boles. No big thing but I share what I learn with all of you whether it's big or little or important or not.

All information is important. Wonder where they got that name from. It's an unusual name for a girl.

Maybe it is one of the families last names or the last name of someone on down . I know that it was common in the old days for the mother to pass on her maiden last name to one of her children (although I am certain Stella's Mothers last name was not Murphy).

I learned just yesterday that the name Murphy for a girl's name was actually common back then. The lady I spoke with said she personally knew 3 girls other than Stella whose first name was Murphy and they lived in Germanton at that time. When I was growing up the names Harriet, Lois, Gertrude, Matilda, Minerva, and Gladys were common. I never did like those names. But I will always think of Murphy as a last name in spite of Murphy Brown from the t.v. series.

When I was in school Amy was a common name we had three in our class and four Susan's. There is a lady around here her first name is Murphy.
