I read of the death of Jimmy Broder in this mornings paper. Jimmy was related to the Browder family who owned Browder Cemetery. Jimmy was the one who used to chase people off with a rifle when he caught them in Browder Cemetery!!!!! I only encountered him and his rifle once when I was in the cemetery but that was one time too many.

It's a shame when anybody dies. Do you know if he will be buried at Browder Cemetery or not?

Maria, the encounter with Jimmie and the rifle would have also been one time too many for me also. Did he live close to the cemetery?

Bettye Rutledge just told me that Jimmy was being cremated and his family is going to keep his ashes rather than bury him. He lived about 2 miles from Browder Cemetery.

There is another Jimmy Browder who lives right by the graveyard. You can see his house from the cemetery. He is still living.

I haven't seen Jimmy in over 50 years. He was my cousin. Our grandfather was Will Plummer, a local barber and tobacco farmer. Will was part of the posse looking for Charlie Larson the day of crime. He found Charlie's body just before sunset that day.
Jimmy and his wife Carol took me in when I was a boy until I could move away to join my father. They sheltered me and showed me only kindness. I never looked back.
