I visited Creasey's Chapel United Methodist Church and Cemetery on Saturday and as I was taking photographs of the church and belfry I was told that a young girl hung herself, or was hung, in that very belfry, and that a man was found murdered and buried in a shallow grave in the woods near by and that the road there was haunted. I nearly dropped my camera at that. Is all of this legend or is there proof of the murders? And what has happened to convince people that it's haunted? I didn't experience anything out of the ordinary myself nor did any of my photos I took show anything unusual. But my curiosity is definitely aroused. Can anyone enlighten me further on this. Thanks.

Hey Maria, glad to hear Creasey Chapel spooked you a little. As you know several of my family members are buried at Creasey Chapel, so I have heard the stories all my life. There is three stories that I have heard. The first one was about the belfry that you spoke of, a young black girl was found hanging from it apparently lynched. The second story was that a man was found in a shallow grave buried beside the church they planted a forsythia bush where they found him. And the last story I know for a fact is true, they found a woman shoved in a hollow tree covered with clothes and dirt in the woods down below the cemetery. They found her because someone saw her hand sticking out. The reason I know that one was true was because when I was little we used to go ginseng hunting and I saw the log with the dirt and clothes. But I did not know someone had been shoved into it. As far as what people have seen. The lights in the church have come on and no one would be in the church, and they have seen a man walking in the cemetery, and a lady walking in the road.

Oh WOW Sissy, this is definitely freaky. The forsythia bush you mentioned...is that the same bush you took a photo of me standing beside? Was I standing on the spot where that man who was murdered was buried? Did they move his body and bury him somewhere else? What about the girl that was lynched in the belfry? Is she buried in the cemetery there? When did these things happen? I have a hundred more questions.

Since we are talking about Patrick County ghost, I thought that I would mention that the local hospital is haunted. The ghost is a nurse that was killed on her way to work. The employees and visitors have seen her in the back hall of the hospital. And they always see her right before a patient dies.

According to what I can find out. The nurse was on her way to work one night and was in a car wreck. Before they remolded the back hall of the hospital it was all patient rooms, she was admitted and died in one of those rooms. The hospital is RJ Reynolds Patrick County Memorial. Maria if the Church is as far as you made it on Creasey Chapel Road then you missed out on a lot. That whole area esp the first 1/2 of that road is just not right. I have never had an experience at that Church but have had one down the road a ways where the alleged " Haunted House" used to stand. There is another cemetery on that road as well...it is all grown up and in the middle of the woods. There is a whole page on my site that is dedicated to Creasey Chapel.

Yep....got a page on Kibler Valley on my site as well. Freaky pic I took at the swimming hole where Dennis Stockton left Kenny Ardner to be killed and mutilated. His death is not the only one that happened at the swimming hole. There have been several other deaths during the years.

Me too. My mom lived in this old house we think was haunted. My niece was three at the time and my nephew was six - seven months old. My niece was playing in mom's bedroom, she came running into the living room where my husband and I were sitting on the couch. She said "Sissy that lady told me to get out of there now." I asked her what lady, she said that one in grannies room. The poor child was shaking like a leaf. I went in to see who she was talking about and there was nobody in the room. The only other door in and out of that room was locked from the inside. Then another day my nephew was chasing my niece around inside that house. My nephew was crawling because he could not walk yet. They both came by me. Then within about ten seconds my niece came back, and asked where her brother was. We searched all over the house. Could not find him. We finally found him upstairs in front of a window in one of the bedrooms, we do not know how that child got up those steps. He could not walk yet and was barely able to pull himself up. My niece could not have carried him up the steps. I hated to stay at that house alone.

Me three Sissy..I was born with a morbid streak. The only time I have ever been in a house that was haunted and had an encounter with the hauntedness? was the Charlie Lawson house in 1979. That encounter nearly sent my mind round the bend for good. I'm fairly certain it was Marie's spirit that I encountered. I didn't see her. I just felt the terror she felt that day when she was being killed. But feeling her spirit was enough. It was VERY strong and frightening. I told all about it in the documentary.

we took a ride to see Creasey Chapel this weekend and the road to the Chapel is truly spooky. It goes on and on for quite a ways with nothing but woods on both sides. My husband stopped the car at one point and showed me "the house" in the woods. All that is left is the foundation and the fireplace - it looked really creepy! One other cool thing was a grave at the church had a "locket" on it. You lifted the lid and there was a picture of the deceased inside. I've never seen anything like that!

Well I for one DO NOT want to see that nurse, considering she is only seen when someone dies. But you, your Mom, me. Sissy, Esther, and Doug Boulding need to get together sometime and head on up there and we'll take you to all these places. Preferably at night when it's even spookier.

We'll take her to Kibler Valley. That place is spooky too. That is where a man was murdered and they cut his hands and feet off.

Hey Bernice,
The hospital is the current hospital. Lots of the nurses have seen her. Mom used to work there and she heard
the stories. It happens on what they call the skilled care section.

One of my friends was the one who told me that someone got shot there at the swimming hole as well as someone else drowning who was drunk. I don't have anything to back that up VET but you can bet If it is to be found I will find it. I do know for a fact though that a guy was killed last year when he hit a tree with his 4 wheeler during the river run.

I don't know about someone being shot but, I remember hearing about the man getting killed on the four wheeler. Kibler Valley is a beautiful place but I always thought it was creepy.

I've been meaning to show some of the pictures that I took of Creasey Chapel Church that we talked about in here. So here they are. This is the belfry where I heard that a young woman was hung from. The yellow forsythia bush is where a man who was murdered was found. And a few of the tombstones I took. Sissy, Esther and I will be coming up to get you this Saturday for a trip to Kibler Valley and the haunted hospital. We'll be there around 10:30 Saturday morning. See you then. Be prepared to have fun!!

Hey Maria, the pictures turned out great. I can't wait to see you and Esther Saturday. Make sure you bring an extra memory card for that camera of yours, in case we see a ghost. That tombstone that Maria is reflected in, is my aunt and uncle's. I took that picture.

These are great pictures. You all are very talented photographers. They should be entered in a photo contest up there! Sissy, the tombstone picture is awesome. Very well put together.

So how did the trip go to Kibler? We were up there today. My brother and sister-in-law were here from North Wilkes. They have never been to Kibler so I took them on the grand tour. It was such a beautiful day for rambling around.

Hey,
I just wanted to say that we had the best time. We were going to go to the hospital but were told it was off limits. Kibler valley was beautiful as always, we did not sense any ghostly activity. It has really changed since the last time I was there. So many houses. Sorry we missed you hillbilly. Thanks so much for the Moravian cookies Maria, those are my favorite.

we took a ride to see Creasey Chapel this weekend and the road to the Chapel is truly spooky.

Hey Angel,
Glad you enjoyed Creasey Chapel. The tombstone with the "locket" is cool there is actually 2 or 3 in there with that one it.

I've seen plenty of those. In fact I ran across 3 tombstones with lockets in a cemetery in Eden when Doug and I went. I also saw one with an engraving of the young man on it. Here they are.
