Just curious here, but I was wondering what brought each of us to this forum. In the spirit of getting to know each other a little better (it's nice to know who we're talking to) I thought that maybe we could start with telling the story of what brought us here. I received a copy of the doumentary as a Christmas present from a friend from California that was staying in Winston-Salem over the holidays. Little did he know how much it would be appreciated. The day after I watched the film, I joined the forum here. I just needed to find out as much as I could about this story. This place has definitely given me alot more info but it seems the more I learn, the more I need to know. I've lived in North Carolina over 20 years and had never heard of this story. Would anyone else like to share their story? Jackhammer

Excellent thread Jackhammer!!! I landed here by way of a song I heard 40 years ago. It was The Ballad of Charlie Lawson. I instantly became hooked when the woman singig the song told me the gruesome story behind it. From time to time over the years I would see some mention about it in the local paper. My interest never waned and when another article on the story appeared in the paper in 1979, the 50th anniversay of the murders, my mom, my son and I went to see the house where the murders occurred. My son then became hooked on it. In 1992 I received the book White Christmas Bloody Christmas from my son for Christmas. In 2006 my son hooked up with a friend of his and they decided to try their hand at making a documentary about it. I was recruited to do the research for it. Some months laterthe message forum here was created and I moved into my new home...this message forum and have been here ever since. A friend of mine noticed I had posted in here one morning at 3 o'clock and when she asked me what I was doing in the forum at that un-godly hour, I replied..."I live here!!!" Maria

I got to this site after seeing an advertisement for the documentary in downtown Raleigh. As I said earlier it was kind of surreal because I recognized the Lawson family photo as one I'd seen so many times before. The first time was when I received a copy of WC/BC for Christmas from my great Aunt Lena. I'd heard the story growing up but the book was the first time I actually got details and saw photos. The story was significant for my family because of our connection to Katherine Laswon Taylor, my great grandmother. She was Charlie Lawson's cousin. PamTFloyd

Hi Pam, It's great to have members of the Lawson family represented here. It's kind of a virtual family reunion. Without all the good food. Jackhammer

What brought me here was a searh for answers about my family. I remember as a child hearing the story because my grandparents had a picture of Charlie Lawson's family in their home. My great great grandfather and Charlie lawson's grandfather were brothers. I can remember seeing the picture and asking who they were, but never ade the connection because I was too little. What I wouldn't give to have that photo now. Sissy

I first learned of this site through my Dad sending me the Documentarry Preview from YouTube and my Mom telling me there was another book about it. I looked up Break Of Dawn Productions and found that you all had this forum. I have always been intriqued with this story since I was a little girl. My grandmother use to tell me and my brother the story. I also read the book WC/BC many times since I was 14. I have lived in Georgia for 10 years now and I truly miss my family. This forum has actually made me feel connected again to North Carolina. N.C. History is always interesting. Iluvnumber3

i can never remember a time when I did not know about Charlie Lawson and family. I remember staying at Uncle Marion Lawson's house and stayng with my Uncle George and Aunt Nina Lawson, working on their farm in the summer months. Uncle Marion and Uncle george were 2 of Charlie Lawson's brothers. I remember spending Sundays with all the family getting together for Sunday dinner. It was always a huge crowd with all of us there. I wish I could go back to that time again. it was the best times of my life. I am glad to have been able to share my feelings here with you all. It has meant alot to me to to say what needed to be said so the family would have a voice. Thanks to maria for being a good friend. She really makes you feel right at home here. And thanks to matt for making the film the way it was made. With true feeling for all, Doug Boulding

What brought me here was that I knew Matt a few years back then lost touch with him. He found me by coincidence on another forum where I was chewing someone out for saying the Lawson murders and Payne Road were the same. Matt knew I had been reading up on this since I was in 7th grade. He scheduled up a meeting with me to interview me for the Documentary and I obliged him. He asked if I wanted to be in some re-enactments for the film so I took him up on it. It was an awesome experience in making the scenes and meeting everyone involved, especially Maria. My mom met her once and loved her to death. So this whole thing has been great and I really appreciate Matt and Eric letting me be a part of it all. Jinx

How did I find the forum? This is a good one, thanks for the post!! My sister actually brought the Lawson family to my attention. She even had the first book that was written years ago. My interest was immediately peaked, and I wore out the google search engine in my quest for info on the Lawson murders! It didn't take much for me to type in words related to the murder that brought me to the forum, and I was absolutely elated to see the number of post related to the murder. Needless to say I'm addicted. Thank you Maria, without the forum I would never have met you, Angel, Sissy, Brian and all the other great posters!!

I've always been interested in music, to one degree or another. I used to try to play the guitar years ago, I briefly played the coronet and trombone in school. Last year I decided I'd like to play the banjo (but I doubt I ever will). I was searching the internet for all things banjo one night and I came across a list of songs. One of those songs was "The Lawson Family Murders". I found it intreaguing and began searching for information about the murders. I found the forum fairly quickly, but I lurked for about 3 months as a guest reading posts before I finally joined. I'm glad I found it and joined.
P.S. Everyone was friendly so I've stuck around. I appreciate the friends I've made here.

How did I find myself here?? The world wide web brought me here.... Har. Har... No really, my mom has always talked about the Lawson murders, and we have gone to Germanton several times to look at the place the tragedy took place. We read the books about it (yep those two books), and then the documentary came out. I had to buy it. Yay... it rocked. I bought one copy, and well all I can say is that I stole it back from my mom and it is currently on my dvd rack. I can't wait for the scrapbook to come out. I'm on pins and needles to see it. I would even think about eating a slice of rasin cake for it. I love this site because it tells so many more truths than the uh-hum... other books have. I was sometimes active on the other forum. But when I went to it today, it went to some gardening webpage.... No..... I cried. So I searched until I found the new one, and may I say it is awsome. Good job guys.
