Maybe this should have come under genealogy, but I thought people might look at it more if it had a heading. Nancy Lawson had a brother named John. My records show he went to Missouri. Does anyone know what happen to him and his family? I also have that she had a brother named Joe of Mayodan and a brother Charles of Stuart,Va. What about genealogy on the last 2 also.

UAP 4. Hi Esther,
Saw this post from you dated Valentine's Day of this year. I have been trying to find out about a man named Johnnie Lawson that was a cousin to Charlie Lawson that I received a real good photo of. All I knew was his name was John Lawson, he was Charlie Lawson's cousin, and he and his family had moved to Missouri. The man you asked about in your post here ten months ago is the same man whose photo I have that I have been trying to find out about for 1 month!!!!! I am so glad I decided today to go look for unanswered posts this morning or I would never have found the answer to my question which at the same time is an answer to your question!!!!! It's things like this right here that tells me that this message forum is a vital and important link to the Lawson story and plays an important educational tool.

Sorry I could not answer you Marie. I could not get back into the forum. I guess I was a stranger. But back to Johnny Lawson. In Nancy Lawson's obi. in the Winston Salem Journal which came out 26 Feb 1940, it says that Nancy is survived by 3brothers, John Lawson of Missouri, Joe Lawson of Mayoday and Charles Lawson of Stuart, Va. It does not say where in Missouri. But in the Stokes Co Heritage Book there is a story # 624 that says, there were 3 different John Lawson's in the first census of Stokes Co., N.C. in 1790. One was John Lawson called "Black Eye" another was John Lawson called "Goober Pea". It tells who the children of "Goober Pea"was and the last child was named John and in the story they call him "Junior". John Junior had a son John III who married Elizabeth Deering. This couple John III and his wife Elizabeth Deering took their family and moved to Missouri settling close to Jefferson City and stayed there for about 11 years, then they moved a few miles west near California, Missouri in Monitu Co., Missouri. In the year of 1873 when John was 73 years old, he and his wife went to Yolo Co., California near the town of Madison where they are both buried. So Nancy Lawson's brother was not the first John Lawson from Stokes Co., N.C. to go to Missouri and he may have had a John. At the end of the story on this family it says, there are a lot of John and Elizabeth's descendants scattered over the Western states of our country, largely in Missouri and California. This is a wonderful story by Linda Vernon and Hassel Gann who wrote the story for the Heritage book. So I guess what I am trying to say, we have to be careful when trying to figure out which John Lawson is which. A lot of our families went to Missouri to homestead land after the Civil War. But I would like to know who was the children of Nancy Lawson's brother John Lawson and who did he marry.

This is the reason I don't come into the forum more often and most people do not know this. (I have my own thing going). Below will explain. It is a letter I sent to all my genealogy and history groups on New Years. Dear Genealogy and History Friends,Happy New Year. Several people have ask me about the way I got started sending out genealogy and history emails. So here goes just a little something to try and explain what is going on with me and what I do and how I got started. 7 or 8 years ago while I was still going out to work each day I had a computer, but I was not on the internet. I used my computer to put my genealogy on a PAF program. That was the first genealogy program that I was introduced to by friends. It is compatible with Family Tree Maker and I do not recommend one over the other. At the time I was only interested in having an organized way of keeping up with my genealogy which I had been interested in for (at that time 30 years). Then I started thinking about retiring and being the person that I am who is a lover of people or a people person, I just could not see myself staying at homeand not seeing people each day. So I thought I am going to buy a better computer and get on the internet and that will give me a connection with the outside world. I did both and I also started taking computer classes which I love. Next I started collecting email addresses for people who love genealogy and history. It has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. They send me queries on their families and I send them out to everyone. They send me notices about their meetings and I send them out to everyone. They also send me research web sites and I send them out. I do not get paid for any of it. I do not want any pay. Just hearing from them is pay enough and only my husband and I know how much time I spend on my computer deleting and placing things in files. This is not something I can do without the help of all you email people. Without your queries and the things you send to me I cannot do anything. Also I am always adding email addresses to my groups. If people change their email address they have to let me know. I can't worry about that. I keep people in groups most of the time by counties, but sometimes other ways.I want to Thank all of you for sending all the things you send. Without you I could not do what I do.I will be sending more on some of my thoughts and ideas about genealogy and the history of our beautiful country.

I too wish you could come in the forum more often but I do understand the love of genealogy ( been there done that full time) and you are right, it takes an enormous amount of time of which every moment spent doing it brings un-paralleled reward and pleasure. Research, to be effective and good, not just superficial, requires an enormous amount of time, intense effort, and constant vigilance. It can't be done well if you have any other thing going. It takes ALL you have and ALL you are. So even though I will miss you Esther, good luck my friend and come in to visit us here if and when time permits. You will always be welcome.

Ester, I've been doing genealogy on my family for more years than I really want to admit to., started when I was 17and have been going on and off since then. Somehow, I ended up collecting all the information about the Todd's in the original Rowan County area (no idea how I got elected for that!). You're right, it is a full time job and extremely time consuming! I have some of the information on my computer, but most of it is still in handwritten form and is slowly being transcribed into an understandable format on that I can send to others researching the same families.Too bad that my color coded notebooks and files can't simply be morphed into digital format!I'd love to be added to your mailing list, as I've collected information about the individuals in my family tree, I've become more interested in history. Oh, how my old high school history teacher loved to here that!! When you start to think about the history surrounding your ancestors it makes them more real. I don't want to know iust names and
