The Bibey Family was never interviewed in either of the books that came out on the Lawson murders which got me to thinking about how they felt over their daughter Nina Bibey marrying Arthur Lawson, the son who survived. Not much is known about her except for what little I was able to get. She had to have been affected by the murders as everyone else in the community was. After her husband Arthur (Buck) was killed in an accident 15 years after his family was killed Nina up and took their four children and left North Carolina for good, leaving all of her family as well as Arthur's family and all her friends and neighbors behind, never to see them again. She moved so far away from North Carolina that it's very unlikely her family was ever able to go and visit her. That was a very drastic change in her life and the lives of her children. Any thoughts out there on this?

As they say she must have had it up to here we can not imagine, guess, dream or go figure what she went through, people asking and stare at her every where she went she must have gotten some money from the wreck or insurance so she was able to leave this part of the world.

Maria, Check the acknowledgments in WC/BC. Leonard Bibey was interviewed. I went to hear the author give a talk and I think she played a tape of that interview! Thanks, Jane

Hi 3ane,
Yes I know she interviewed Leonard Bibey that one time but it was only about how upset his grandfather, Charlie's uncle, got on Christmas morning. When we interviewed Oakley Maning he stated that no one had ever bothered to interview the Bibey and or Manring side of the family and how the murders affected them or what they believed happened or anything else. That was what I was talking about.

In the new book, the author contacted Arthur's family in California and they stated that they did not really keep in touch with their family in NC, and that everyone was great and they wanted everyone to respect their privacy. It was Arthur's great grand-daughter I think she talked to. Anyway, part of me wishes they would speak to settle some of the questions. Of course who really knows if Arthur ever spoke of it. You know sometimes when people (the family, not so much Arthur) don't speak about something, it just increases peoples curiosity, so sometimes I think it's best just to get it out. You know Arthur had to be aware if Marie was pregnant or not. I too was wondering if anyone would allow, and who would that be, DNA testing to be done to put it to rest. I'm not for disturbing the dead, but this has been a long time issue.

Hi kcail.
Welcome to our message forum. I'm glad you have joined us here and have posted. We have discussed the issue with DNA testing of Marie here before but since you are new I will address it again. We have been told by a leading pathologist in North Carolina that due to the amount of time that has passed (77 years) and the conditions of the burial place, type casket used and no vault used that there would not likely be anything left from which to extract DNA . Or something to that effect. It would also cost someone in that family an astronomical sum of money to do it as well. The going price 10 years ago just to exhume a body was $3,000.00 dollars (probably more by now) and that doesn't include the seperate price tags for the different tests performed. Some of those tests would be extremely intricate and complicated and as such cost a great deal. Hope this helps somewhat.

i agree with kcial-.i wish there was something that could be done to find out the truth to this on going secret...but like maria said it takes a family member and a great sum of money to do it but results would be useless...it just makes me wonder if we will ever know what really happened?

There are some parts of this tragedy we may never know Lilred but then you never know who might have some
piece of evidence that by some complex string of events wanders into our lives and drops it into our hands. One can always hope.

That's what makes this forum so interesting for us all..we are all being sleuths so to speak looking at the case from new perspectives we may have not heard before. I am guessing this is the only and most active place on the web to talk about all things related to this story.
