The story goes that after Charlie Lawson shot Carrie and Maybell out at the tobacco barn that he grabbed a 3
foot 2 by 4 and beat them in the head with it to finish them off sooner so they wouldn't suffer. Where did this
come from? Where was the 2 by 4 found? By whom? I guess what I'm asking is who told this in the first place?
And what became of it?

I remember that story from the first "That Book," but can't remember who it was attributed to, or if it was even
credited to anybody!

I wonder how they knew a 2x4 was even at the site unless someone found it? I don't think I've heard too many good things about the meaning of our tears book which I wanted for my birthday. Could anybody here recommend reading it? I really enjoyed the documentary and was looking forward to reading the book but now I'm not quite so sure.

Welcome to the forum Train. As far as reading that book, i'm not gonna tell you not to read it, just make sure if you do read it you take everything in it with a grain of salt. A lot of the things she wrote in it we have proven as lies or "artistic license" she calls it. In my opinion the book is trash, not worth the price I paid for it.

Thanks for the information about the book sissy. I don't want to pay the price for the book if It doesn't tell the truth. When you said it was trash, that kinda did it for me. Thanks!

The book isn't ALL bad, Train. She just has a LOT of misconceptions, red herrings, and some downright falsehoods in there, which for me, simply overwhelm what good she has in it. Also, a lot of people have problems with the methods used to garner information for the book. There is a thread somewhere (Maria?) which explains this in detail. 3ust remember, the conversations she records are 99% conjecture. Many of the alleged conversations had no witnesses, so we CAN'T know what was said. Also, she insist on not one but TWO eyewitnesses to the killings. This simply is NOT TRUE. Though at least one person identified as such WAS there at the house at some point, he NEVER said he SAW Charlie killing anyone. At least, not in any records I can find. Smith does do a decent job of describing life at the time though, in general.

I thought the book was good as a fiction book, like Michael says, describing life at the time in general. But you can't read this book as a true account of what happened.

Why would Charlie bash the heads in of Marylou, James, and Raymond with the butt end of the shotgun but bashthe heads in of Carrie and Maybell with a 2 by 4 when he had those same guns with him. That's what doesn't addup for me. Did someone see a lot of blood on the 2 by 4? has anyone heard that before?
