I read this comment about Charlie Laws on on the internet last week. I quote:
The scene at the Lawson family home became one of the most heinous crimes the country had ever seen. Here was a man who was believed by those who knew him to be a fair and honest man. Yet in just a few moments, he had become a mass murderer, killing 7 people, before turning the gun on himself. It sounds like Charlie Lawson was fine one minute and somehow in a split second went berserk and committed the worst crime ever committed in Stokes county before or since. This disturbs me. I've heard so many many people say repeatedly similar words about Charlie Lawson, that he was a good, kind, caring man. Even Elmer Puckett who was with Charlie Lawson that morning during the shooting contest said Charlie was fine when he left at 12 noon. But two hours later 7 people lay dead. How can a man be fine and in minutes kill his whole family! and himself. That is impossible. It had to be premeditated. It's far too frightening to believe that Charlie Lawson or any body else could be so good and so normal and so fine and go so suddenly berserk.

Yes, it's hard to believe that someone could go THAT insane in the blink of an eye. I agree that it was premeditated.

Oh, I'd say it was well thought out and planned. Maybe not the exact date and time, but he knew it was coming...and may even have planned it to happen at Christmas.
You hear all the time about someone who seemed perfectly normal and then committed some sort of atrocity shortly thereafter. The face that Charlie presented publicly may have been completely different than that he showed his family. And if he had planned it out for that day, then he wouldn't have wanted anyone to think that the slightest thing was amiss for fear they would suspect something was wrong and possibly stop him.

Doodlebug,
Great insight on your part about it being an act on Charlie's part that everything was fine so that no one would suspect what he was getting ready to do that day. Don't know why I didn't think about that. It makes absolutely perfect sense. Thanks Doodlebug!!
