People seem to forget that the brain continues to function for a little while after the heart stops beating, so all the funny things happening can mostly be explained because the brain is shutting down. Are you ever "aware" of being asleep, or can you only reflect back on it when fully conscious. I believe the awareness we experience is in all simplicity just electrical signals. I don't think its possible to be consciously aware of death when there is no brain activity. Its not possible to be aware of sleep when one is still alive so how can one be aware of anything when dead. Were you aware of anything before you were born? No...so why should we be after death.

That makes sense Vickie but I've never been able to shake that fear of my awareness surviving death. If our state of awareness dies when we do then how will we know we are in heaven or hell or whereever in the afterlife?

In body form we won't be aware, but I believe our souls will be.
Which brings up a good question: Cremation or Burial? I have with much debate over the years pondered this question and after going to many funerals I have chosen cremation after experiencing this with my mother who was cremated. I feel much closer to her than my dad who was buried. Could it be because I have her ashes and that makes me feel closer to her? The very fact that she is in my home makes me feel at peace. This would certainly freak out many people and it is certainly a view of choice. And even though I have resigned myself to the fact of being cremated a verse in the bible still rings out in my mind:
"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1Th 5:23
I personally don't believe that it would matter to Christ if our bodies are intact as long as our souls are saved. I believe in the immortality of the soul and see no reason to give special attention to my body.

Vickie, I can see why you would feel that way with the ashes of your mother. I had not thought of it that way before. I bought a cemetery plot many, many years ago so I guess I'll go ahead and use that when the time comes. I really don't like the thought of being in the ground but I don't really think we will know at least I hope we don't.

"Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1Th 5:23 I've thought about that alot too when thinking of cremation versus burial. I sure don't want to tee off God!

Me either angel!!! I'll just put it this way.........whatever my girls feel comfortable with is what will happen. I know how much they HATE funerals and I have been asked by my eldest daughter when both my parents died, if I had thought about cremation. My father's death took a toll on her and I remember her looking at my dad in his coffin and then running mercilessly out of Hayworth Miller funeral home and into the parking lot...crying uncontrollably. I hated to see my children so upset and thats when I began to think about my decision of cremation. After all, its our loved ones that will be left behind.

I'm having my ashes scattered in Highgate Cemetery in London, England. I don't like being trapped inside anything. If I can become a ghost I want to be a ghost in a real old and real spooky castle in England and I want to roam all through The Tower Of England..

There are several real old "alledgedly haunted" castles scattered throughout England that allow people to spend a night in the castle. I would LOVE to do that. I don't know how much it costs though.

I would LOVE to go with you to England Maria. I'm sure as many times as you have went and with the knowledge you have of the country that you would be a better tour guide than the paid professionals.

From what I remember reading we watch these things from above our earthly bodies. We do not experience distress because our spirits are out of our earthly experience. I also think it is good to talk about feelings regarding organ donation. Until this year when I renewed my license I had not done this but now it makes perfect sense.

Maria, I can see you as a ghost in an old English castle. I'm sure you would have all the other ghosts organized and having a great time. You could float from castle to castle and if any people needed frightening they would be frightened.

I have read many times that very often prior to dying we leave our bodies before any of the real pain. What people watching perceive as us being in pain but our souls have actually already left the pained body. I like this idea and find it comforting.
