Hey listen....the exorcist messed me up so badly when I was in my twenties that some nights I just lay paralyzed in bed thinking about it, afraid to fall asleep for the inevitable nightmares. Since then, of course, it's become my favorite horror film. From the documentary-style opening we got a tale of demonic possession so harrowing and well-acted, and which dares to inflict incredibly vulgar torture on a 12-year old girl. She's saved in the end, but only after a long ritual in which the two priests are killed, calling into question the power of good over evil. Some people needed psychiatric help after seeing this, and I doubt there will ever again be a movie so frightening. And since this movie, I have also seen "A Haunting In Connecticut" and "The Strangers" and let me tell you that any movie that portrays anything that can definitely come to life scares the "bejesus" out of me! "The Strangers" left me scared for days watching my closet door waiting for the people to come out wearing those MASKS!! Any movie that has the capability or potential of being reality scares me to death.......and what is your favorite movie?

Although I know some people personally who were traumatized by The Excorsist...suffered anxiety attacks, nightmares, etc. it did not frighten me at all. Neither did Psycho or Silence Of the Lambs. I did scream alot while watching Haunting In Conneticut but when the movie was over so was the scary...no side effects for me. The only two to ever really frighten me was "Salem's Lot" and Faces Of Death. My all time favorite scary movies are "The Others" and "Woman In Black."

My favorite scary movies are the ones that don't show a lot of blood and gore. I like suspense movies. I like The Glass House. Very good and not too gory. As far as gory goes, one of my favorites is 13 ghost. I love all scary movies, we had a marathon one Halloween night we sat and watched every Friday the 13th movie lol.

I love scary movies, but the only one I've ever seen that really scared me and creeped me out was The Exorcist. It absolutely terrified me when I was very young - and now, it super creeps me out. I love it!!!!!!! My other favorites.......too numerous to mention!!!!!!!!!!

I used to like scary movies a LONG time ago, until I saw The Excorcist in the theater when I was 17 or 18. I have seen a few since then but I don't see too many. I thought Night of the Living Dead was scary, especially if you watch it about midnight when alone in the house (I THINK I'm alone, I hope).

Lets see, its hard for me to pick just one. I love, love horror movies. The bloodier the better. The Exorcist scared the crap out of me when I was little, but the movie that stuck with me was Zombie, by Fulci. Oh man, my parents took my sister and me to the drive in to see that movie. I was only about 5, and I was supposed to be asleep in the backseat. I was scared for years. Now zombie movies are my favorites, I think I've seen Zombie about 100 times. But ghost movies creep me out the most. Event Horizon (I watched this one in the house, at night, all by myself and I had to turn all the lights on) and any of the Asian Horror movies give me the willies.

I saw Event Horizon but it didn't turn my light on. Didn't even make it on my favorites list. Too much blood and gore and messy body parts lying around for me. I got startled several times and screamed (I always scream when something startles me) but being startled isn't the same as being scared. I did however like the looks of the space ship which was a haunted house in outer space. I love the director's concept of a haunted house in outer space but I feel he just didn't pull the rest of the movie off very well.

Yeah, it didn't make it into my list either. It just freaked me out, and movies don't usually do that. But of course I was home alone, in a new house, late at night. It had a wonderful concept, but they went all wrong about making the movie.
I'd have to say that my top ten would be. Zombie & Dawn of the Dead (original) tie The Exorcist (this one still gives me the creeps) Suspira Masque of the Red Death Friday the 13th (original) Deep Red The Beyond Demons Evil Dead The Texas Chainsaw Murder (original)
But it is really hard for the to pick a top 10, I like so many horror movies.

seiyalover - I love the gory stuff too - have you seen House of a Thousand Corpse's and The Devil's Advocate (Rob Zombie's movies)? I liked those pretty good - also I loved, loved, loved the Saw movies - I even own some of those! One more - the new version of The Hills Have Eyes.
All of those were pretty gross - I loved them!

I love Rob Zombie's movies. He is a truely deviant film maker. I really like the Saw movies too. Tobin Bell plays a totally demented character. And the Hills Have Eyes was good too. I think I liked it a little better than the original one.

Even though the exorcist is my favorite scary movie of all time, there were others that scared me too like Psycho, The Haunting and When a stranger calls.

That's right.......You did have long black hair!! I've seen the preview and the trailer to the movie "Drag Me To Hell", and it looks really scary! Below is a little about the movie and a small preview on youtube. Can't wait to hear about it Maria. "After denying a woman the extension she needs to keep her home, loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) sees her once-promising life take a startling turn for the worse. Christine is convinced she's been cursed by a Gypsy, but her boyfriend (Justin Long) is skeptical. Now, her only hope seems to lie in a psychic (Dileep Rao) who claims he can help her lift the curse and keep her soul from being dragged straight to hell." www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jCP3oOymK8

After watching that trailer I'm having second thoughts about going to see it!!!!!!!!!! It's weird but in the scene where she lays down on the bed and looks to the side and that old woman is lying beside her I busted out laughing when she screamed bloody hell. I use to be afraid that one night I would wake up and Charlie Lawson would be lying beside me or standing at the foot of my bed. Scared the heck out of me for real. Thanks for the link!!!!
