At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, I have to say that my wife, my brother-in-law, his wife, and I were out-n-about this summer and, since their kids play ball in Walnut Cove, we decided to swing by Brook cove Road to see if we could find the Squire's Inn. My wife had read about it some time ago and remembered hearing that the article said something about ghosts of the Lawson kids sometimes come there to play. It was a lighthearted message, not meant to demean the Lawson's or anything, but it was enough to make me definitely want to find this place.
As soon as we pulled slowly into the almost-hidden driveway, I got that familiar little chill like something was in the air! Gotta love that...no doubt. Since we had no reservations and absolutely no reason to be there, I backed out and we went home. My wife and I do plan on a formal stay in one of their gorgeous rooms in 2007--without my chicken-stuff brother-in-law and his gutsy wife, of course.
Does anyone have anything interesting to add about this property (house, land, etc.)? The lady on the DVD seemed very nice.

Hi Rambler
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. The woman who owns Squires Inn is definitely wonderful. I really enjoyed meeting her and touring the house. I will say no more than this about it so as not to give away any surprises BUT....I highly and strongly recommend you go for a tour...It will knock your shoes off. It is one of the things in life you will not regret having done, believe me.

I forgot to add this about The Squires Inn house. This house once belonged to the Wagoner Family. Ruby Wagoner, now Ruby Savage, grew up in that house. She was one of Marie Lawson's 3 best friends. The house was only a quarter of a mile from the Lawson's house and Ruby spent many a night with Marie there. Ruby was one of the people in the documentary. She is 94 years old now. She was the one who said..."And Elijah, Charlie's brother, came up on the hill and said come quick, someone has killed Charlie Lawson and his whole family.

I just did Sissy Lou. Squires Inn is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast Inn in Stokes county. You have to tour it to appreciate the beauty of it. It was once the home of The Bob Wagoner family. Ruby (Wagoner) Savage, Marie Larson's best friend grew up there, it's & quarter mile from the Lawson Cabin. The owners claim the house and grounds are haunted by two of the Lawson children May bell and Raymond.

This is just me, but personally I'd like to see Bonnie, Tim, and Squires Inn Get more business, really. I think what she's doing there for the children is one of the most touching aspects of this story and deserves the support of any of the ethereally inclined who can make the trip and afford to spend the night or the weekend. Despite this story's obvious 'draw', Bonnie doesn't hammer this story into people as a reason to stay there because she feels that'd be disrespectful, not only to the children, but to her visitors (many of whom don't know the history of the place when they book a room and might not be interested or happy to hear that the ghosts of a couple children murdered by their father on Christmas nearly 80yrs ago have been known to pop up in their rooms from time to time), and to the beauty of the Inn itself (it's worth going there not only for supernatural reasons, but to also luxuriate in the one of a kind, world class murals, unique architecture [the front door is a quarter panel from the door of a castle in the UK; at 12, 16, or 20ft {however tall it is, man, it's Big} it makes you appreciate just how big this castle must have been and the work and care that went into installing it here in a beautiful house lovingly restored to grandeur out in Stokes County, NC], the 17th century 2nd floor French Quarter style wrought iron ballustrades, the gourmet 3 course meals provided by Tim Snyder, a locally renowned chef, the recessed interior lit hot tubs tucked away in the honeymoon suite, or just to meditate and reflect on the area and all it's stories, including the children's in the exquisite Christmas Room that Bonnie keeps year round for Maybelle and Little Raymond Lawson, who usually feel inclined to stop through for a spell round Christmas, usually to small groups of folks unaware of the Inn's supernatural history, and usually at first audibly in the form of laughter and what Sounds like to many, a tea party.
Despite what anyone else says, I'm willing to go on record as saying I believe there's as strong a chance that Maybelle and Little Raymond play there as any ghost story I've ever heard or read about in a life Full of reading. I'm not the least qualified or informed paranormal researcher out there by any means, and I'll identify myself outright as a member of the 'Houdini School'- for those who don't know, Houdini believed in the other side, but was despised by many spiritualists, mediums, clairvoyants, and other varieties of seers and soothsayers because he ruthlessly exposed frauds, charlatans, and those who would subvert legitimate scientific paranormal research to make a quick buck off people's need to believe in something beyond to find greater meaning in their present, i'm cynical, not because i Believe, but because i Know from my own experience that spirits are real and i hate to see legitimate claims ignored or ridiculed as much as i hate to see phony claims played up and made money off of. i've seen them, interacted with them in real time in the real world- those particular spirits Bonnie's seen. I Know they're there.
i get a laugh sometimes when people tell me they don't believe in ghosts, that's fine, i usually tell them, they don't need you to believe in them, nor do they care if you don't, they have their own concerns that supersede any sort of concern for you and your beliefs, my best recommendation though is if you ever find yourself wrong about this and you encounter one, be polite and don't bother telling them you don't believe in em, they're Just as likely not to see you either, so don't disturb them with your disbeliefs, ok? you Really don't wanna startle a ghost; take it from me.
closing my eyes and running down the stairs didn't exactly 'save me', now did it? they're still with me; they Still haunt me. turns out they wanted company in my nightmares, so now they've brought in Melissa Tittle.
We HAVE to get this Battered Women's Shelter Up & RUNNING, folks! the sooner we All spread the word about this film to everyone we know and ask each of them to do the same, the sooner we can prevent the next tragedy by providing a safe haven in the community where this happened, to show it's possible with a film to raise awareness and by doing so, provide a solution to a Critical issue Crippling our country right now. (whoa, how'd that soapbox jump up under my feet? sorry bout that and thanks for letting me ramble here y'all) i think it's the kids' voice maybe.
i think they're there, not All the time, but since when have u seen Any kids Anywhere Stay anywhere fixed for Any amount of time? but they're there; that's where they used to play & wander, it's where they wander still and play...
but now they have a guardian there named Bonnie who Knows they're there and makes a place for them in her home, out of love, not out of greed. Bonnie is good solid people with her Own previously unmentioned qualifications for being able to see spirits, but Everything in me tells me she's seen them there, and i fervently hope for Maybelle and Lil Raymond Lawson's sakes that she stays there, makes a handsome profit off of the Inn's Natural tourist accomodations to Afford to pamper the inn's occasional Supernatural inhabitants for the rest of her life and beyond, if she so wishes. After all, she wouldn't be the first to never wanna leave that house.
Squires Inn doesn't need ghosts to be magic- it's more than worth the price for many of the usual high end reasons- by all means, take a tour, inquire if you wish about the children or don't, but prepare to stay for the weekend and know that by supporting her, you're also supporting the children, by way of their loving caretaker who's going to look after them as long as she's there whether or not we believe her or in the purity of her motives for sharing her story with us and the rest of a largely disbelieving, sometimes openly hostile world full of skeptics beginning right next door to her... Considering the price she's paid in public disbelief, I'd say she's earned the right to believe what she wants, and keep those trees lit for years and years to come-but that's just me, and i Do respect 'non-believers' opinions on the subject as well as believers who may believe differently, or perceive any of what i've just said differently-please, lemme know how U all feel about this...

Somewhere between here and there in your post Matt I ran out of steam. So I read it 3 times to make sure I retained it all. I agree with you on your assessment of both Bonnie and the house itself as well as the spirits of the children. Like Matt I have visited Squires Inn several times and there is nothing phony about the owners Tim and Bonnie Snyder. They came across to me as people who are as honest and lovely and without deceit as any two human beings can be. They both said they have seen and heard Maybell and Raymond Lawson numerous times and I believe them. The times I was there I definitely picked up on a source of energy that I can only describe as not of this world. I caught myself turning around to look behind me a couple of times as if someone was behind me. One time I distinctly remember walking down the hallway towards the Christmas room and without thinking caught myself stepping to the side to let someone pass and was surprised when I saw noone. I Felt these sensations BEFORE I learned of the sightings of the children by Tim and Bonnie. In my experiences with the super natural I have always been more of a senser than a see-er. In other words I will sense the presence of someone more often than I see a person. It is a very unusual and heightened feeling or sense. Very strong, sometimes causing me to flee the room. Bonnie Snyder does not have to make up stories to lure customers to her Bed & Breakfast. And I have to say after meeting and being around Bonnie and Tim Snyder that it offends me when someone makes that accusation, especially when it comes from someone or anyone who has never even met the Snyders or been so graciously invited into the privacy of their beautiful home. I can understand and accept there there are some people who do not believe in ghosts and I do not have a problem with that. But I do have a problem with someone accusing the Snyders of deceit in order to drum up business that was made in an earlier post. One last thing I want to share about the Squires Inn is this: Every time I've been there I felt so calm, so peaceful, and so serene that I never wanted to leave.
