In the post about Payne Road, there was a link to: eerieinvestigations.
i went to that website and clicked on the Local thingy's which brought up the name of, LYDIA...she was the little girl ghost hitchiker that folks picked up to take home along the road where she died in an accident there several years before!
the site is near High Point ,N.C.,and i have been to the home there also while producing a tv story related to Halloween night!
it was on a Halloween night that Lydia, lost her life !
as the story goes.folks have been picking up the little gid about every year on Halloween and take her home only to find that she was not in the car after arriving at her home.
After knocking on the door to the home, Lydia's mother would always thank those who brought Lydia home and then tell them the story about how her young daughter lost her life on that road and would also tell them that they were the one of several folks who had "picked up" Lydia to bring her homel
Lydia has forever been IMMORTALIZED in a song,by a group called,"The Country Gentlemen"!
this group recorded a song back in the mid 60's titled,"Bringing Mary Home"...
it seems that the name MARY fit the rhythm and rhyming of the song better,so Mary was the LYDIA, of the song!
the cd can be found on AMAZON.COM and it's titled... Country Gentiemen.can't you hear me callin':early classics 1963-
1969...
it's on the Rebel LabelfREB-CD-7508)
Also.while still working as a tv news photographer and producing a tv news story about Lydia,i had the opportunity to visit the home where Lydia lived...it was still standing in I999,the year i retired!
ALSO.a Film Production Company came to town shortly aftert that and produced a movie called, LYDIA!
my collegue reporter Kim Jenkins played a part in the movie and i was also a stand-in for the local bar room scene!(i
do not drink)
any way.the movie never made the big screens but it can be purchased at most DVD movie places (they use to rent them)but you buy them now!
By all means, you must buy the CD with the "Bringing Mary home" song on it!
the last verse in the song will really give you goose bumps!...
Lydia's mother is thanking the driver of the car for the kindness shown, then tells him...
"You're the 13th one that's been here,bringing Mary homel"
you'll love it!
i did and still do!
regards,
tarheel
