I have read a lot of true crime books and none of them have affected me the way The Night Stalker book did. Richard Ramirez was a truly evil man who would just break into people's homes and do horrible things to them for the "fun" of it. I could hardly fall asleep for months after reading that book, knowing that people like that are out there. And then this horribly evil monster has women trying to marry him....what's up with that??!! There are some crazy people in this world.

He was sick, and so were the women who wanted him.

Angel and Brian I also can't understand why anyone would want someone like that. When you see them on television it's almost like they want their 15 minutes of fame. Even Charles Manson has crazies still wanting him. Sometimes when I'm out shopping in a mall I think about how many sickos are probably walking beside us in the mall and we have no idea how sick and evil they really are.

Sometimes the nicest people turn out to be warped and demented. An 8 year old girl in Tracey, California was murdered by her Sunday School teacher last week. It's the not knowing that is so scary Susan. Like walking around in the mall, shopping in the grocery store etc. one of those people in the aisle beside you could be a killer. And you never know when someone is going to walk into a restaraunt where you're eating and start blasting away.

Speaking of this Sunday school teacher I can only imagine how the child's family feels. They had to have trusted this woman to let Sandra go visiting there. To me this is the most evil to have people trust you and you are deceiving them the entire time. When I was growing up my parents let us go with our Sunday school teacher on trips and ride with her to Bible School during the summer when they were at work. They trusted her to take care of us. I'm just thankful she was trustworthy but it could have been the other way.

Like the scandal involving Catholic Priests a few years ago. Not in anyone's wildest imaginings did they even think a priest could not be trusted around their children and trusted completely.[Those priests knew everyone trusted them above all other kinds of care takers wich is one of the reasons it was so easy for them to get away with it so long. It's a major act of betrayal for sure.

That woman who killed the little 8 year old girl in Tracey, California was the child's sunday school teacher and she has now been charged with rape as well as murder. The woman's grandfather is the minister of that church. There were only 16 church members and four children in the church. This woman is seriously messed up. This is one of the most chilling crimes I've heard of in a long long time.

I'd have to agree Maria. I was shocked when it was announced that a woman, a Sunday School teacher no less, was charged with this! Man or woman though - if someone could harm an 8 year old child, they are definitely messed up!

I remember the shock when you told me about this on the phone Maria. For some reason this incident bothered me more profoundly than most. A woman that supposedly dedicated her life to God, committed the ultimate sin on a small innocent and trusting child. I have no words to explain the disgust I feel.

I think this woman was very sick with emotional problems. I have a feeling she was badly abused by someone during her formative years. I'm not excusing her actions, they were terrible. I'm just trying to understand what made her able to do something so horrible. I don't think she just woke up one day and bam...she was that damaged.

According to the links you posted about her she does indeed seem to have some serious problems. However, some of the people she accused of raping and or abusing her and her child don't seem to have truly occurred. It's strange how once again a woman or a man does something so horrible and so unexpectedly and no one saw it coming. No one saw any signs that she was capable of doing what she did. We still hear from people who say Charlie Lawson could not have done what he did, that he loved his wife and children too much to kill them and that he was too good of a man, too good of a husband, and too good of a father to do that. But he did. I have no doubts about that.

I believe that sometimes parents just don't want to see what their children are capable of doing when they show problems. I have worked with people whose children clearly need psychiatric help and the parents almost always blame teachers or other people for the problems. I guess we just don't want to believe our children could do some of the things that some do. It does seem that Melissa was clearly showing signs of problems in making up stories. It would have been better if she had been confronted with the fact that what she was telling was not true and maybe could have gotten help. Accusing people of this type of thing was pretty bad in itself. Unfortunately grandparents really don't want to believe the grandkids do anything wrong.
