This post was removed last night we are putting it back on so everyone knows we on the board only remove messages using profanity people have a right to opinions and we believe each person can make up there own minds on what has been expressed.
I knew I would stir up a hornet nest....Ha!But every word of it is true.
What I say here is purely towards the movie makers, not the Lawson or the Manring families. What Charlie did so many years ago was a profound tragedy and it always will be; no one disagrees. And the areas Domestic Violence issues does need to be addressed also.
But reading all this "Pattingyourselves on the back for such a good job" is getting old. Ghost stories....with something like theLawson tragedy, come on guys!' You lost alot of people out here with that. You don't even realize you downgraded the whole story with spooks. Oh yes; we bought the DVD and you will get your dollars...but there are people that are shaking their heads at such amateurs. No I am not the professional either; before you say that....I am in certain circles where I have heard conversations on the subject. And these circles matter.
Plus I know how some of the knowledge was gained to put this show together. And I am not talking about the interviews either. I do not need to go further. The ones that count know what I am talking about.
I am the flip side of the coin...and noneofyourbusinessl is just apin name;.....hey, it did get your attention and that was what I was after...and boy did you take the bait....

Dear NoneofyourBusinessl,
I'm speaking for the Lawson family when I say, that the DVD that was put out on the Lawsons was done in very good taste, and that it will prevent other tragedies. I don't see that book or its publishers offering any of their money to help battered women shelters. I will be the first to pat them on their backs for doing a good Job and caring for people unlike some book writers that come on talks shows and don't anwser questions. Now you want to dig up some dirt on how they got their information, do you remember how you got yours in the first book? By talking to Stella Lawson, well I do, she bragged about meeting and going out with the onginal author, going on all those fancy dinners, thinking there was more to this man than just a book. The whole Lawson family use to sit back and talk about Stella being so foolish to think there was more than wanting to find out what she knew. Now, if you want to sling dirt, heres your first shovel full'

I heard that the new book got only one rave review, from the publisher, that was paid off. And it seems funny to me that the movie didn't cause any controversy amongst the remaining family, unlike the book did. Its pretty bad when someone uses a tragedy such as this one to fatten their wallet, not caring who they hurt, or drama they cause betwen the family members. Like others have said in previous posts, i havent seen any profits from any of the books going to help anyone but the writers while they sit back and watch the carnage unfold between family members. Its really sad to know that alot could have been done wrth some of the profits from the book deals, but it wasn't. Shows how selfish some people in the worid really are. Money is the root of all evil. So noneofyourbusinessl can trash the movie all they want to. Ill just sit back and laugh at the fool they make of themselves knowing what good has come from the movie in helping some people possibly heal from this tragic incident that has haunted their family for years. Props to Matt and Eric for the good job they have done with the movie and what their doing to help the community. Yall did it the right way, not the selfserving way.

Everyone has a right to their own opinions. Speaking for the author and publishing company of the books as you do, I take it you work for them since you know all these facts. Hi Jane,
I do not work for the author or the publishing company. Neither do I speak FOR them, so I'm a little confused as to why you say we speak for them and do we work for them. Will you explain what you mean? I am not trying to be confrontational here. I'm simply not quite understanding what you're saying. I speak solely from the research I have done and the interviews I have been in on. My participation in the documentry is in no way connected to the book, the author, and or their publishers.
Thanks,

I have no connection to the people who released this movie. I have read all three books, the movie is by far better than any of the books. You say that the so called patting themselves on the back is getting old. They don't have to pat themselves on the back, enough of us that have seen the movie will do it for them. It was great. Yes they may be getting some money from the movie, but some of the money from the movie is being used to help fight domestic violence. Can the author of the book say that? Yes you did stir up a hornets nest, but my momma always told me the more you stir something the more it stinks.

In rebuttal to Jane, no i don't work for the publishing company, nor do i work for Ms. Trudy Smith, and for the record, i wouldnt work for her or anyone that has any dealings with her. I just pay alot of attention to my surroundings and to whats going on. I may not be an expert in this field but i do read alot, especially when it deals with historic events that happened so dose to where i live. Ive been studying up on this tragedy since i was in the 7th grade, way before the 1st book came out. My father had taken me to the house before they tore it down, and as i got older i picked up on the subject, and started asking questions. My great grandfather even went to the funeral and would tell me about how crowded it was to be held in such a small town. That he stood in line for hours on end just to get a glimpse of the caskets, and about how it was the talk of the town for weeks afterward.
Does that answer your question as to "how i know all this"??

All I have to say on this issue is that I have personally worked with these people and I commend them for having the guts to "think outside the box" and to reach out there and cover all the aspects of this tragedy, knowing some would ridicule them for their efforts. And as to the means they acquired their information, I personally witnessed alot of those means. Like working for days on end with no sleep. Having to put their personal lives and families on the back burner so they can create a documentary in hopes of not only healing a broken community, but in building a shelter for battered, and making people aware that domestic violence is a common thing we should be aware of. Instead of listening to their favorite songs or watching T.v, they were reaching out to those involved in this story, listening to interviews, looking up articles in library archives, and meeting with people like domestic violence advocates and counselors, not in hopes of getting their name plastered in the media or making lots of money but because they care enough about other people to make the sacrifices others can't or won't make. They have given their time, their money, and a big piece of their hearts and souls to make this documentary. And thats all I have to say on that issue.

I agree with you Lady dragonfly. If it weren't for people like Jones a Smith and these who have done the documentary, then people like me would still be wondering what did happen that day. And how many people are going to go around in Stokes Co. a asking about it all the time to find their own answers. Another thing, I would like to ask Maria since you have researched alot, and this is about opinions, right? well, I remember when 1 read WC/BC I was stunned at the relationship Marie had with her daddy. I picked that up even in the first chapter. That she and her daddy had more than a daughter/father bond between them. Like I said, this is my opinion, and what I perceived of what I read. Hi Carol,
You are so right..this is about opinions. And of course some facts. When I read the book White Christmas Bloody Christmas I had an uneasy feeling regarding an alleged interaction on page 41, the last 2 paragraphs, between Charlie and Fannie regarding something Fannie supposedly said to Charlie about Marie and subsequently Charlie's reaction. When reading about it I had a feeling of something possibly occurring between Charlie and his daughter that was something other than normal. BUT...here's the problem I have. I have since learned (about seven months ago) that Fannie did not give birth to Marylou in a hospital in Winston-Salem as the book stated. She gave birth to Marylou at home. The author did state in her book on page 12 that for the sake of readability, it was necessary to recreate some portions of the Lawson story through imaginative writing. In other words, it's sometimes referred to as "taking liberties." Since that particular mistake was made about where the baby was born (an honest mistake I'm sure) I have to question whether the rest of that part of the story ever occurred or was purely imaginative writing regarding Fannie's comment to Charlie regarding Marie. And so of course if that conversation did not take place then my feelings of something being un-natural between father and daughter due to a comment never made and Charlie's reaction to it becomes null and void. I hope my sequence of reasoning and deduction are not confusing to you. If so feel free to say so and I will try and get it across better. While we're at it I would also like to add that in another part of the book (page 67) I read something that made me feel as if Charlie and Marie's relationship was a hostile one. But here again, if this conversation did not occur but was another piece of imaginative writing, then an interpretation of a hostile relationship is null and void.
