Is the cemetery open for people to pay their respects, or is it on private property? Also, would the family mind if someone went there to pay their respects? I wouldn't do it if it were against the family's wishes. It's just that since watching this documentary, I really feel a sense of knowing this family, and because of that, a sense of loss. Hello,
I am going to let Maria tell you how to get to the cemetery as she took me there two weeks ago. It is rather hard to find unless you know to look for the jut off from the main road. I can not in vision anyone not letting someone wanting to pay respects to any grave site. I have always been told the more prayers offered up for souls the better.

Thank you, ladebug. Seeing that you were there two weeks ago, is it overgrown, or has it been taken care of properly?

I would say it looked like any older cemetery with leaves all over the graves now. It seemed sad to me to see Arthur's grave behind all other family members..all alone as he was after there deaths. I did find it interesting to see all the relation there as well.

Hi Jack. Maria jumping in here gain. To answer your questions about any Manrings buried in Browder Cemetery, yes there are. Fannie (Manring) Lawson's parents John Manring and Onie (Branch) Manring are buried right behind Charlie and Fannie and right beside Arthur's grave. The cemetery is rather unkempt but some work has been done recently to spruce it up. Charlie's brothers Marion Lawson and George Lawson as well as Charlie's mother Nancy Lawson are also buried there. One of Fannie's sister Ida Mae (Manring) Ashby is buried there as well. As for paying respects there, the Browder Cemetery is a tricky one. It is a privately owned cemetery (William Browder is the original owner) and is now under the auspices of a board of Directors. Due to some serious acts of vandalism in the past and at night there is at least one Browder relative on the board of Directors who is very opposed to outsiders (if he catches you there he will run you off and threaten to have you arrested) visiting there although the other members are okay with it as long as you are not loud, or disrespectful. They do not like for people to go there after dark though. This is why I say it is tricky. I would suggest that if you want to visit it that you do so in the daytime and if you should encounter the Browder descendant who is opposed to you being there I would not argue with him but just say thank you and quietly leave. Although I have been to Browder Cemetery numerous times I have only encountered him once and that was as I was already leaving.

Thanks again, Maria. And thanks for the heads up on the opposed Browder descendant. I am not brave enough to go to a cemetery at night, so that's not even an option. And thanks for explaining the family ties as to the other graves.

My girlfriend & I, along with four children visited the grave sight back in March of 1991 after reading White Christmas Bloody Christmas. The first thing out of my girlfriend's mouth when we got out of the car was, "They should not have buried the *** ** * ***** in the the same grave with the family that he killed". It was getting late in the afternoon when we got into the car to leave & it would not start. We pushed it down the drive going out of the cemetery trying to start it. It would not start. A man who lived on NC 8, next to the cemetery, stopped & let me use his phone to call for a tow. The following December, the author of the book & Stella Lawson Boles were at a local K-mart signing copies of the book. I told them of my experience at the cemetery. He smiled & said that strange things do happen.

ladebug, I ordered the book on line & received a signed copy by the author. The new book does have a little bit more information than the first one. It has more pictures. It is a little repetitive with some parts, some parts are a bit boring. It tells more of the Lawson's family daily lives & farming in detail. The first chapter talks about burning the blood stained linens & pillows, but does not give a time frame when this occurred. There is another witness that Marie told about her pregnancy two weeks before the murders. It talks about Arthur's life more in detail. One part of the book says that he worked various jobs, then another part says that he never worked & was well off. There is some difference in opinion in who was driving the night Arthur died. In the DVD, one of the elderly ladies says that the other man was driving? If I had not read the first book, I would have enjoyed it more. I still have White Christmas Bloody Christmas & read it again this week.

Hi Hymes,
Maybe you can offer me some advice. I was looking to buy a copy of the original book: White Christmas - Bloody Christmas, but was hoping to find it for less than the $135 bucks that is being asked on Amazon. The newer book is more affordable, all though $40 isn't cheap either. Since you've read both of them recently, do you think that I would be missing much information if I just bought the second book. I'm not looking for an investment here, just the info that the book/s offer.
I'd appreciate any info about this from anyone, not just Hymes.

Hi Jackhammer,
If your not interested in collecting the first book, you would be better off with the new book. It does have more information that would make you believe that Marie was pregnant at the time of her death. My first book has been read several times by many people since 1991. It is showing a bit of its age. I do not know if I would buy a used copy of this book, it could come apart when you read it. There were only 14,000 copies printed. You could wait & see if the new book comes out in paperback or check with the local library.
