Wow Doug, thank you. It's really rewarding to hear this.
My introduction to the Lawson family was at one of the library talks, in Danbury, in Jan 2006. We were making our last movie, and Matt really wanted to make this film, so we got permission from the library and came on by with the cameras. I was so struck by how alive the story still was, and how much it meant to people. It was quite a day, with one little country library overflowing with people.
During the program, I heard for the first time a lot of the story, and some of how it split the family apart after the first book. But I saw a different side, with all those people there. When I was interviewing people afterwards, I added one question to everyone I asked: "How has this story brought your family closer together?"
I'm glad to take part in bringing people closer together, and hopefully contribute something good out of this terrible
tragedy.
