I heard that when Marion and Arthur were part of the fair that alot of the furniture was on display there and that they sold those items to the owner of the fair. I realize the book, WC/BC states that Marion Lawson appeared as a side show at the fair in Winston-Salem with his pictures the year following the murders (1930). But a news article in the Winston-Salem Sentinel by Tom Seig said that Arthur Lawson, no mention of Marion Lawson, appeared at the fair in 1930 and that people paid money to see him there. But the article says at the fair in Mt. Airy, not Winston-Salem. Anybody know if this is true about the furniture being sold there and or at which fair Arthur or Marion was present. If Arthur was there then it had to be at the fair in Mt. Airy for the one in Winston-Salem where they, or at least some things...photos, guns, furniture, etc. were supposedly seen was in 1950 something and Arthur was dead before then.

It is definitely true that there were displays at the fair on the Lawson tragedy. We heard from a number of folks who saw displays, both in the 30's and 50's. It's hard to track down exactly what was there, and of the stuff that was there, how much of it is real. For example, at one fair there was a coffin - obviously that was a prop, and any cakes that were there wasn't THE cake. We also heard a range of various furniture items such as dressers, a bed, a crib. I don't ever remember hearing anything about bloody sheets being on display.
Maria remembers the details better than I do, but there was confirmation in a newspaper article that Arthur was a main attraction at a fair. I think it was in the early 30's and in Mt. Airy.

I have read both books and I don't see any mention of them selling raisin cake only snow cream. But I could have missed it.

Thank you for your response Maria. The only reason I reposted my question, is because on the other post, it seemed to have gotten "lost" between somethings that were not really on the subject. I did not mean anything by it.
The "zoo" like atmosphere and pieces of Raisin Cake being served was told in the books. People claim this is also present in the programs that were handed out and sold during the tours. It was told there were amusements, and this included snow cones and pieces of (replica) raisin cake served. That is what I thought to be totally wrong, as well as the travel ling side show.
Do you all happen to know anyone that has one of these programs in their possession?

Sissy,
I could have swore I read this in one of the books. I will go back and look again. I just know that it bothered me reading that detail.
The selling of raisin cake was mentioned by one of the people or family members interviewed. I will look again, I know I did not just make it up.

Maria, it said in the second book that Marion and Stella built a fire and were talking things out of the house and burning them, was this before the going on the road with the show and fair? They must have chosen things to go on the road that they thought would sell people on wanting to see them. I agree with iluvnumber3, Marion had to have talked Arthur into doing this. Marion I think saw dollar sign's.

As I was stating before earlier on the concessions served at the tours of the scene......
In the new book "Meaning of Our Tears", pages 280-282, has descriptions from a Mrs. Martin Jester and I think others. She claims that at the end of the first summer, after the tours you could purchase packs of "nabs", pieces of RAISIN CAKE baked from Maria's recipe, cold colas and candies. This concession stand was located at the edge of the yard beside the woodpile. There were also programs and packets of pictures sold.
The new baked pieces of raisin cake should not have been sold, nor should the recipe. As a matter of fact the original raisins should not have been sold either.
This is like buying Abigail Folger's coffee, cups and recipes from after the Manson murders. Same difference........just weird!

You are missing my point here. The point is that there were a few posts in response to mine and now they are not or here anymore. So i was just asking why they were removed by the authors.
No biggie. Doesn't really matter, I answered my own questions in a way. It is done.

Hey #3,
I noticed that you were talking about responses to you being deleted. But a few of yours are now deleted. Why did you remove them?

I felt it was best to remove them, because it looked as if I was talking to myself after the other posts were removed. So I just left what mattered, I guess. My question was misunderstood somehow anyways about the removed posts.
Like I said, no biggie. My questions were answered.

Hey all, just to lighten things up a bit..I think most of us feel like there are days we Are talking to ourselves no matter with the kids or husbands etc.
Seriously, sometimes when someone says something and perhaps thinks it was not appropriate or not the answer they wanted to convey .people once in awhile delete posts. You have the right to do so any one can delete his or her own posts. The only time WE as a board deleted posts was for malicious behavior or profanity. This is just personal freedom we have to respect.

This was taken to a whole different level for some reason.
I placed a few posts and they were answered several times throughout the week. The answers were removed by the authors after a while, after I found a few answers myself. The responses were very informative, so that is WHY I was wondering why they deleted them. I enjoyed them. That is all I wanted to know..........
