Recently I went and saw Ghost Rider at the Carousel Grande Cinema in Greensboro where I live and noticed that there was posters advertising A Christmas Family Tragedy there all around the Theater. I cant wait to see the documentary . But my question is , is how can i get one of those posters and will the the theater give me one . I was just wondering.

Hi Zombie,
I'm pretty sure the Theatre won't give you one of the posters. But you can email Matt or Eric to see if it's possible to get one. Glad you like it enough to want one.

Glad you like the poster! It's my favorite image that Matt has come up with in a while. I get a big kick out of that, and the DVD cover. We had a lot of people tell us we really needed to hire "professionals" to design stuff like that, but Matt knocked 'em both out of the park.
The theater will not be able to give you a poster, we need them back! It costs a LOT of money to print small runs (under a thousand), and we don't have many. I would be open to seeing what everyone's interest would be, and maybe organizing a printing run. But it isn't something we can afford to order a bunch of, and see if people want them. I don't know what the price would be yet, but please realize that just a poster, shipping container, and postage would cost almost $30 for us. If you think that's steep, you should have seen the heart attack I had when the local printers said it would cost EIGHTY!
But, you folks on the forum have been so good to us, I'd be open to doing a one time offer/preorder just for y'all. Let me know the interest, and I'll see what we can do.

Eric, I had a question about the DVD cover and the poster. They are reproductions of a family portrait. It might just be me being sensitive, but it feels strange that people want to have a family portrait (of members of my family) hanging in their house. Particularly considering the subject matter. It just feels kind of weird. Did you have to get permission to use that image, how does that work? Please note that I am NOT trying to be accusatory and saying anything negative, just wondering how that all works.

As to the first part of your question, I don't think you should be so surprised that people are interested in hanging a piece of artwork that uses the family portrait. Is that so different than having world famous musidans singing songs about them? Or movies? Or books? Or Marion selling copies of that portrait to tourists who were touring the house, or to folks at the fair? A whole lot of people already have the portrait up in their homes, usually from one of the many, many newspaper articles that has reprinted it over the years.
I'm not saying that everyone who is interested in the tragedy has the best intentions, but I'll stick up for the folks who participate in this forum as being respectful.
As far as the rights, we got permission from someone very closely related to the family to sign a release for all these uses. You could probably argue that it is "fair use", but we've always made sure to stay on the right side with as much of the family and friends as possible.
But, it was great to meet you on Friday Pam, and hope you'll give us the benefit of the doubt based on all you see here. Have a good one!

Eric and Maria,
Thanks for your responses to my question about the picture. I get the feeling it was insulting to you and that was not my intention. For this, I apologize. This story brings up lots of emotions on all sides for many people (as is clear from the posts). And you're right, selling the posters is similar to Marion charging for tours, which is something that bothers a part of me, but I'll admit, I'd be one of the first to pay for the tour. I don't know. I guess I'm just torn on the issue. It's just a strange place to be in. Feeling protective of family history and yet thankful for the knowledge obtained from the documentary and its popularity. And its not even my close family. So, I guess that's where my question was coming from. Thanks again and I really hope there are no hard feelings. I believe that you and Maria are good and honest people and I hope that I didn't imply otherwise.....

No offense taken, and I'm sure you aren't the only one with those conflicting feelings, and to be thinking of questions like this. But thanks for the follow up, it is appreciated, and I hope that the film is able to harness all of the interest in the tragedy and contribute to something good coming out of it.

Eric, I think it would be a great idea to have poster's. I would like one myself. It's a part of history and could be handed down. I do agree with everything you said about it.
