Since there was no indoor plumbing, I gather you put water on the stove to heat it up, poured it into a tub and then
you took a bath in front of the fireplace. No privacy

I think they probably had a way to get privacy. They probably had a large metal tub that they filled with water
heated on the stove and placed the big tub in the kitchen so it would be close to the stove. That way they could
close the door to the kitchen, take their bath, and when anyone saw the kitchen door closed they knew not to
go in there because they knew it was only closed when someone was taking a bath. Just a guess on my part but
it makes sense. They also could have even rigged up a sheet to form a barricade and have privacy.

I heard Dolly Parton tell a story one time about bathing as a child. She said when the boys were home you washed down as far as possible and up as far as possible, and when the boys were out you washed possible.

As small as that cabin was with all those people living there, they didn't have much privacy to begin with!!

My Mama use to say that too Sissy. She would say "I washed up as far as possible. Then I washed down as far as possible. Then I washed Possible. And then there was what she called her P.T.A. Bath. But don't ask me what that stood for cause I ain't telling.
