I am a 42 yr old native of Stanleyville/Rural-Hall area, And have always been fascinated about Payne rd stories, The Lawson family tragedy too! (I saw it at garage, very good !)..I was wondering if the house still remains?..I went to the gravesite years back when a friend and I were on a quest to find it. That was very erie too!.. I never saw the house. Maybe it was too dark to find. I did see some old barns around there and big fields. (Browder rd area) Also, I wonder why people consider the House that used to be on "Payne Rd."(White one) to be Haunted. It's strange how close these two places are, and simular stories, Perhaps combining Charlie Lawson Murders to the House on Payne Rd?.. Thanks for any input on this.

Hi Brian and welcome to our message forum. Unfortunately the house where Charlie Lawson killed his family is long gone, torn down in 1982 or close to that. So is the old tobacco barn where Carrie and Maybell were killed. Some of the floor boards from the cabin were used to build a covered bridge. Other than those few boards nothing tangible is left of that terrible day.

I'm not sure if there's a better thread to pose this question or not, but I selected this one as the it has the word house in the title. I have read a couple of things about the house, so I'm wondering a few things.
1. Did Arthur live in the family house right after the murders? I know that it was said in the film that remaining family members were charging admission ($0.25) to see where it happened.
2(a). If he did live there afterwards, did his wife and children move in there as well.
2(b). If he didn't move back in, did anyone live there after the murders.
I'm sorry if these questions are all "old hat" to the folks posting here. I plan to read the book soon, to get a little more up to speed on the story.

No he didn't move into the house until after the tours were over. And yes their children, at least a couple of them lived there with them or so I've been told by a number of people. They then moved from the cabin to another house nearby where apparently they were still living in 1945 when Arthur was killed in a dump truck accident. According to the time frame between when the tours ended sometime around 1934 or 35 and his death in 45 they did not live in the cabin very long as they had moved to the other house during that time also. Understand that I do not know some of these answers firsthand but am repeating what I have heard and learned through others. I have also been told that one of Charlie's brothers bought and or lived in the cabin also but I don't know if it was before Arthur and his family lived there or after.
